Hollidaysburg is a hub community that became the main transfer point between the Pennsylvania Canal and the Portage Railroad, a gateway to western Pennsylvania. Hollidaysburg was established as a borough in 1836 and when Blair County was organized in 1846, the Borough was designated the county seat.

Beerbower Jewelry (315 Allegheny Street)  Al and Millie Beerbower established Beerbower Jewelers in 1954. Their son Don now operates the business. In 1984, Beerbower’s became members of the IJO, the largest independent jewelers buying group in the world. In the 1990’s, Beerbower’s became members of the American Gem Society, a group of jewelers promoting high ethics and education among its membership.
